SHORT FILM ABOUT KILLING (Krótki Film o Zabijaniu)
dir. Krzysztof Kieślowski / Poland / Drama / 1988 / 84 min.
Subverting the binary roles of victim and murder, the film tells a story of the disaffected twenty-year-old Jacek, who murders a taxi driver. Captured hours after the murder, Jacek is sent to prison and put on trial by the state. In prison, he meets a young and idealistic lawyer named Piotr who decides to defend the boy in court. "Tough, real and ironic, 'A Short Film About Killing' pulls no punches and never lets you off the hook. An uncompromising attack on capital punishment, it is a minor masterpiece." Mike Leigh
